Best accounting software for CA firms in India (2026)
Ask ten partners to name the best accounting software for CA firms and you'll get answers to two different questions. That's because a CA firm actually runs on two software layers: the practice layer that runs the firm itself — clients, deadlines, staff, billing — and the bookkeeping ledger where client books live. We ranked both, using verified 2026 pricing.
Our #1 pick: QwikCA — the practice and billing layer every firm needs first. It is not a ledger; it pairs with TallyPrime or Zoho Books. Read the review →

One search, two software layers
When a firm searches for the best accounting software for CA firms, it is usually shopping for a ledger — somewhere to post client vouchers, reconcile GST and produce financial statements. But the tool most firms are actually missing sits one level up: the system that tracks which of 300 clients has a GSTR-3B due next week, who on the team is handling it, and whether the fee was ever invoiced. No ledger does that job, which is why our practice-management rankings exist as a separate list.
So this guide ranks the practice layer first — QwikCA, our top-rated pick — and then the seven bookkeeping ledgers we'd shortlist for client books. If you're still mapping out what your firm needs, our buying guide walks through the decision step by step.
One rule cuts across every ledger below: since 1 April 2023, the Companies (Accounts) Rules require an audit trail (edit log) in the accounting software of company clients, and auditors report on it under Rule 11(g). We flag which tools address it — more context in our compliance category.

QwikCA
#1 — Best practice + billing layer4.8QwikCA tops this list for a reason that has nothing to do with debits and credits: before a firm worries about client ledgers, it needs software that runs the firm itself. QwikCA is that layer, used by 2,000+ firms and 5,000+ active users across Indian CA, CS and tax practices of every size — from solo to mid-to-large, multi-branch firms. On the money side it covers GST-compliant invoicing, Razorpay and UPI payment links, and profitability reports per client and per service, so fee leakage finally becomes visible. Around that sit the compliance calendar with smart reminders, auto-created GST/TDS/ITR tasks with GST portal auto-fetch, a client vault and CRM, and WhatsApp automation. Be clear on scope: QwikCA is not a bookkeeping ledger and won't hold a trial balance — it pairs with TallyPrime or Zoho Books rather than replacing them. It's also cloud-only, and DSCs are tracked for expiry rather than signed in-app.
Specs: ₹1,000/yr (Solo, 1 user) to ₹27,000/yr (Enterprise, 60 users), excl. 18% GST · unlimited clients on every tier · per-seat option ₹100/user/mo billed yearly · 1-month free trial, no card · 30-day money-back.

TallyPrime
Best ledger overallTally Solutions, Bengaluru
If a client walks in with existing books, the odds are they're Tally books — it remains the de facto standard for Indian client bookkeeping, and a CA office typically runs the multi-user Gold edition while clients hold their own single-user Silver licences. Two features matter most to firms in 2026. Connected GST, which Tally's product pages describe as uploading GST returns to the portal from inside the software and filing GSTR-1 without portal round-trips. And the Edit Log release, Tally's answer to the MCA audit trail — the vendor describes creates, alters and deletes being logged with date, time and user, with the log staying on in that build. Watch two things: cloud access is a paid add-on on top of a desktop-first product, and firms must confirm company clients are on the Edit Log build rather than the regular release — verify the audit-trail behaviour on the exact build you deploy.
Specs: Silver (single-user) and Gold (multi-user) editions · sold as monthly/annual rentals or one-time perpetual licences — current rates on tallysolutions.com · + 18% GST · Windows desktop; cloud add-on priced separately.

Zoho Books (India)
Best cloud ledgerZoho Corporation, Chennai
Zoho Books is the ledger we'd pick for a firm that wants client books in a browser instead of on an office PC. The free plan (for businesses under Zoho's published revenue threshold) includes GST invoicing plus, per Zoho's plan pages, a dedicated free accountant login, so your firm can sit inside a micro client's organisation at no cost — and paid plans include accountant access, GST filing and an audit trail, which matters for the MCA mandate. Multi-GSTIN clients are handled through a per-location add-on on higher tiers (check current plan gating), and Zoho documents an official Tally-to-Zoho Books migration path. The honest catch is per-organisation pricing: every client that outgrows the free plan is a separate paid subscription. And don't confuse it with Zoho Practice, Zoho's separate practice-management product — Books is the accounting engine.
Specs: Free plan for smaller businesses (revenue-capped — check Zoho's current threshold) · paid per-organisation tiers billed monthly or annually, current rates on zoho.com/in/books/pricing · + GST · web + mobile apps.

BUSY Accounting Software
Busy Infotech, Delhi
BUSY is the strongest second choice to Tally, especially across North-India trade and distribution client bases, and its GST-return depth is genuinely impressive for a desktop package: e-returns in JSON, direct GSTR-1/IFF upload, and automatic e-invoice and e-way bill generation across paid tiers. Its audit trail logs additions, modifications and deletions, and BUSY states it switches on automatically — and can't be turned off — when the GSTIN belongs to a company, which maps neatly onto the MCA requirement. For a CA back office, the Power+ subscription is the interesting one: a multi-user licence covering a whole shelf of client companies on one subscription (confirm the current user and company caps on busy.in). Two checks before you commit: verify the audit-trail behaviour for company clients on the edition you buy, and remember that for non-company entities the feature must be enabled manually in configuration.
Specs: subscription tiers (Start, Smart, Power, Power+) and perpetual licences (Basic, Standard, Enterprise) — current rates and tier limits on busy.in/pricing · GST extra · free Express edition · Windows desktop; BUSY Online cloud priced separately.

Marg ERP 9+
Marg ERP Ltd, Delhi
Marg earns its slot through your clients rather than your office: it dominates pharma, FMCG and distribution businesses that need batch and expiry tracking, so CA firms serving chemists and distributors will inherit Marg data whether they choose to or not. The ledger side covers GST billing and return filing, e-way bill generation and multi-company management, with the Gold edition offering unlimited users — the tier a back office would want. Two honest cautions from our research: we found no audit-trail or Rule 11(g) compliance claim in any Marg page we reviewed, so verify before using it for Pvt Ltd books, and the official price list was unreachable when we checked while the major aggregators disagree with each other by thousands of rupees — get a written quote from a dealer rather than trusting any published figure.
Specs: pricing on request (official price list unreachable at review time; aggregator figures conflict) · yearly licensing with 1 year of upgrades · editions from Nano to Gold (unlimited users) · Windows desktop with cloud deployment options.

Vyapar
Simply Vyapar Apps, Bengaluru
Vyapar solves a different problem: getting usable data out of clients who would otherwise hand you a carrier bag of bills. It's a mobile-first billing and accounting app (Android, iOS and Windows) with a free mobile tier per multiple listings, GST billing and inventory in all paid plans, offline working with device sync, and a Gold plan that adds unlimited firms, e-way bill and e-invoice generation and TCS on invoices. The same vendor now owns Vyapar TaxOne (formerly Suvit), the AI Tally data-entry tool — a growing CA-side ecosystem. Scope it correctly: no audit-trail or MCA compliance claim appears anywhere we looked, so it suits proprietor and partnership clients, with the firm importing data into Tally for finalisation. Official pricing is rendered by script and varies heavily by reseller, so treat any quoted figure with suspicion.
Specs: free mobile tier (per listings) · paid Silver/Gold/Platinum plans — pricing on request from the official site · Android, iOS and Windows desktop · works offline with sync.

myBillBook
FloBiz, Bengaluru
myBillBook's most CA-relevant feature is baked into every plan: a dedicated free CA login alongside the business user, so the client-shares-books-with-accountant workflow is the default rather than an upsell. GST invoicing runs across all plans on Android, iOS and web, with the Windows desktop app reserved for Platinum and Enterprise. The Enterprise tier is the one a firm should steer clients towards — it adds e-invoicing, e-way bills, POS and recurring billing, plus Tally export so you can pull data back for finalisation, with multi-business and multi-user support. Like Vyapar, it makes no audit-trail or MCA edit-log claim, so it shouldn't hold the statutory books of a company client. Note the pricing too: the displayed rates are promotional, and renewal at list price would roughly double the cost.
Specs: Diamond, Platinum (adds desktop app) and Enterprise (multi-business, multi-user + CA login) tiers — displayed rates are promotional and change often, so verify current pricing on mybillbook.in before budgeting · money-back guarantee · free trial for first-time users.

AlignBooks
Align Info Solutions, Delhi NCR
AlignBooks is the wildcard: an Indian cloud accounting/ERP whose price list includes a dedicated Certified Professional variant — a partner-style offering aimed squarely at accountants and CA firms. Multi-company support runs across plans, and from the Ultima tier up you get multi-branch and warehouse handling, approval workflows and audit features, with a per-location add-on giving a multi-GSTIN path. GST features include e-way bill generation and return preparation. The realistic caveats: base plan prices didn't render on the official page when we checked (a single aggregator claims a ₹10,000 starting point, unconfirmed), its footprint among Indian client businesses is far smaller than Tally, BUSY or Marg — so you'll rarely inherit AlignBooks data — and the sign-up terms warn that inactive trial data is purged, so don't park real client books in a trial.
Specs: base plans pricing on request (amounts not published on the price list we fetched; taxes extra, one-year cycles) · extra-user and extra-location add-ons priced separately · tiers from Basic up to ERP + Enterprise · cloud.
Which combination should your firm run?
Because the best accounting software for CA firms is really a pairing, here are the stacks we'd actually deploy:
- QwikCA + TallyPrime — most firms. Clients already keep Tally books, the Edit Log release satisfies the MCA mandate for company clients, and Connected GST handles filing. QwikCA sits above it running deadlines, staff, document collection and fee billing — the jobs Tally was never built for. Track the statutory calendar alongside it with our GST return due dates for 2026.
- QwikCA + Zoho Books — cloud-first firms. Everything lives in a browser, the free accountant login gets your team into every client organisation, and the audit trail on paid plans covers company clients. Just budget for per-organisation costs as clients outgrow the free plan.
- QwikCA + BUSY — trade and distribution client bases. BUSY's GST e-return depth and the multi-company, multi-user Power+ licence make it a cost-effective back-office ledger, with a vendor-stated auto-enabled audit trail for company GSTINs. More on filing workflows in our GST software category.
- Add Marg, Vyapar or myBillBook only when clients bring them. These follow your client base — Marg for pharma and distribution, Vyapar and myBillBook for proprietors and small traders — with the firm pulling data into Tally for finalisation and AY 2026-27 income-tax deadlines managed in the practice layer.
On the practice layer itself, QwikCA isn't the only credible option — Jamku is a well-established favourite with a strong compliance-calendar core, and Turia is a fast-rising, mobile-first alternative. Both are worth a look; our QwikCA vs Jamku and QwikCA vs Turia comparisons break down where each wins.
Best accounting software for CA firms: FAQs
What is the best accounting software for CA firms in India?
It depends which layer you mean. For running the firm itself, QwikCA is the top-rated practice and billing layer in our 2026 rankings, used by 2,000+ firms. For the client-books ledger, TallyPrime remains the Indian default and Zoho Books is the strongest cloud alternative. Most firms get the best result by pairing one ledger with QwikCA rather than hunting for a single tool that does both jobs.
Is QwikCA a bookkeeping or accounting software?
No — and we rank it #1 knowing that. QwikCA manages the practice: compliance deadlines, staff, client records, GST-compliant invoicing and Razorpay/UPI collections. It does not maintain ledgers or produce a trial balance, so client books still live in TallyPrime or Zoho Books. See our full QwikCA review for exactly where its boundaries sit.
Should a CA firm choose TallyPrime or Zoho Books for client books?
TallyPrime suits firms whose clients already run it: single-user Silver and multi-user Gold editions sold as rentals or one-time perpetual licences (current rates on tallysolutions.com), Connected GST filing and the Edit Log audit trail. Zoho Books wins for cloud-first work — browser access, a free accountant login on client organisations (per Zoho's plan pages) and a documented Tally migration path — but each client becomes a separate paid organisation once it crosses the free-plan revenue threshold.
Which accounting software meets the MCA audit-trail (edit log) rule?
For company clients, the Companies (Accounts) Rules audit-trail mandate — in force since 1 April 2023 and reported by auditors under Rule 11(g) — is a hard filter. TallyPrime's Edit Log release, BUSY (which the vendor says auto-enables it for company GSTINs) and Zoho Books' paid plans all address it — verify the behaviour on the build you deploy. Vyapar and myBillBook make no equivalent claim, so keep them to proprietor and small-trader clients.
Is Zoho Books the same as Zoho Practice?
No. Zoho Books is the accounting ledger; Zoho Practice is Zoho's separate practice-management tool for CA firms, which we cover in our Zoho Practice review and in QwikCA vs Zoho Practice. A firm can happily keep client ledgers in Zoho Books while running a different practice layer such as QwikCA.
How much should a CA firm budget for its software stack in 2026?
A realistic pairing for a 15–20 person firm: QwikCA Growth at ₹12,500/yr for 20 users (excl. 18% GST) plus a TallyPrime Gold rental or perpetual licence at Tally's current published rate. A solo practitioner can start far lower — QwikCA Solo is ₹1,000/yr alongside a single-user TallyPrime Silver rental. Cloud-first firms swap Tally for Zoho Books, whose per-organisation plans are published on Zoho's India pricing page.
